Starbase Louisiana is the name SpaceX announced for a planned launch complex in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. The precise site we name is Freshwater City, near Pecan Island, on about 125,000 acres of coastal marsh. It is a company announcement, not a finished spaceport you can tour.

Where is it — Freshwater City or Pecan Island?

Both, used correctly. Freshwater City is the precise site. Pecan Island is the nearby community that news stories and search queries use. We name both. We never replace Freshwater City with Pecan Island.

What parish is Starbase Louisiana in?

Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, on the Gulf coast. Parish seat is Abbeville, well inland of the marsh.

How many acres?

About 125,000 acres of coastal marsh. That is the figure we use. We do not say 130,000.

What are the coordinates?

A public reference point for Freshwater City is NOAA CORS station FWTR: 29.5526°N, 92.3047°W. That marks the area. It is not a visitor entrance.

Is Rocket Gumbo affiliated with SpaceX, the parish, or the state?

No. Rocket Gumbo is an independent merch brand. We are not affiliated with SpaceX, Vermilion Parish, or the State of Louisiana. We do not use SpaceX logos or marks. This is not an official site.

When will it be built? When are launches?

Treat any construction start or first-launch year as an announced target, not confirmed. We do not publish a build calendar or a launch date. If you need an honest status: TBD.

Can I visit? Where do I watch from?

Details are still developing. There is no public viewing program we can point to, and we will not invent pull-offs, gates, or access roads. Stay off private land and out of the marsh unless you have a lawful reason to be there.

Why does rocketgumbo.com exist?

Because Vermilion Parish got a new name on the map, and we wanted a local, independent shop for Starbase Louisiana merchandise that uses the right geography. Freshwater City near Pecan Island. About 125,000 acres. No fake hype, no official badge.

Who owns this site?

Rocket Gumbo — a private merch brand. Not SpaceX. Not the parish. Not the state. The Copyright page states what we own and what a shirt purchase does not include.

Is this an official Starbase Louisiana website?

No. Official project information, if and when it exists for the public, would come from SpaceX or government sources. We sell original merch and publish place facts we can stand behind.

Is there a map? Where do I watch a launch from?

The Location page has a map marking Freshwater City (NOAA CORS FWTR) and the region north to Lafayette. A viewing section sits next to that map. When public launch-viewing details become available, they will be listed there. We do not invent pull-offs, parking lots, or official overlooks. There is no public viewing program we can point to today.

Where do I eat near Starbase Louisiana?

Inland. Kaplan, Abbeville, Maurice, and Lafayette — not in the marsh at Freshwater City. The Food page lists sourced, currently operating kitchens. Kaplan is thin on purpose. Call them for hours. We do not invent kitchens or ratings.

What did LED and SpaceX announce on Aug. 25?

Starbase Louisiana. Official figures we source are on the Facts page: LED $100 billion; SpaceX.com “at least $100 billion”; 3,000 direct jobs over 10 years (LED); construction expected 2027; first launch targeted as soon as 2029. Precise local name: Freshwater City. Announcement geography: Pecan Island, Vermilion Parish. Not New Orleans.

When are the next public Starbase Louisiana events?

None are independently confirmed yet. The Events page lists public hearings, official sessions, and confirmed gatherings when a primary source publishes them. We do not invent watch parties, photo meetups, or expected dates. The August 25, 2026 announcement in Abbeville already happened.
