Rocket Gumbo is an independent merch brand for Starbase Louisiana — the SpaceX project announced for Freshwater City, Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, near Pecan Island. We exist because a quiet stretch of coastal marsh just became a national search term, and somebody local ought to sell a shirt that knows the difference between Freshwater City and a headline.

What this site is

This is the web home of Rocket Gumbo: a small, sharp, Louisiana shop building Starbase Louisiana merchandise with original designs. You will find the place-names, the coordinates we can stand behind, and a store that is coming soon.

You will not find an official timeline, a jobs board, a viewing-guide with invented pull-offs, or anyone claiming to speak for SpaceX or the parish.

The announcement

In August 2026, SpaceX announced Starbase Louisiana — a planned launch complex in Vermilion Parish. News coverage often says Pecan Island. The precise site we name is Freshwater City. Both belong in the sentence. One does not stand in for the other.

Public reports put the footprint at about 125,000 acres of coastal marsh. That is the acreage we use. We do not round it up.

Construction start and first-launch dates have been announced as targets. They are not confirmed. We do not treat a podium number as a calendar.
